How do I set my hosting to use gmail to handle the email.

Back

Choosing to use Google for your email can now be done in the DirectAdmin control panel, using the "MX Records" option in the "Email" section and choosing "Google" in the dropdown menu.

Old Method

In DirectAdmin, logged in as your user with the correct domain selected, click the MX Records icon/option

Untick the local mail server tick box, so that the server knows that you are not using the server to receive emails for your domain.

Delete the existing MX Records and add the following

your-domain.com.     MX     10     ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
your-domain.com.     MX     20     ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
your-domain.com.     MX     20     ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
your-domain.com.     MX     40     ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
your-domain.com.     MX     40     ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.

Please ensure that there is a dot after "your-domain.com" otherwise this means "your-domain.com.your-domain.com"

Also, ensure that there is a dot after "ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM" or it means "ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.your-domain.com"

Once your new MX records are in place, your mail should start being delivered to Gmail, assuming you have configured the Gmail end correctly.
